Talent and Creativity Prize for ORBIT Alumni

We were delighted to discover recently that talented former ORBIT Youth Council member Bea has won a prestigious photography prize with the image above. Here she talks about how it came about and her time with the Council.

Last year in April, the ORBIT Community and I took a trip to Glasgow. We visited multi-media artist, Rachel Maclean’s, studio and got a tour followed by the opportunity to group-interview the artist. Outside her studio we did some activities in the courtyard, where this photo was taken. The colours and compositions around this courtyard intrigued me. After the activities, I took my camera out and spent some time exploring the scenes and did a series of photos called ‘Derelict Yard’.

One of the photos in particular was selected by my art teachers and put through for a Paolozzi prize, under the category ‘Talent and Creativity’. I won the overall category and was later displayed at Meadowbank on a billboard. This experience sums up what the Orbit Council did for me during my time; it created a new level of inspiration through experience for me and allowed me to achieve great results and opportunities.
